100 Days and counting!
It's been a very interesting journey so far since we launched this site back in March. I've personally talked with a number of you about many aspects of this coupon program, and while there have been times where I thought we might be looking at another delay in the transition date, things seem to have come together and now we're only 100 days from February 17th!

For those of you ready to go with your new converter box, congratulations! For those of you who haven't taken the steps to get set for the transition, please do so as soon as possible before the dead of winter really sets in!

Email us by using our contact page ifyou have any questions or concerns with your particular situation.

Let the countdown begin!

Ok, now help your mother!!
My last post from a couple days ago told you to listen to your mother, but after seeing this video, I think we should all help our mothers! It's all in good fun, but seriously we should all reach out to our older relatives and neighbors to make sure that they are ready for the transition!

Listen to your mother! Get a converter box!
We've received a lot of inquiries lately from people with cable and satellite TV asking if they need to get a converter box, or if a converter box will give them more channels with those services. The short answer is "no." Converter boxes are only designed for over-the-air TV signals which require the use of an antenna of some sort. They will not allow you to get more channels from your cable or satellite hook-ups. And for everyday viewing, if you have cable or satellite TV, you don't NEED to get a converter box even if you have an analog TV.

But our mother has been speaking up a bit lately, and we should all take heed. Mother Nature, that is. Recent years have shown us devastating hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and more. Some areas of the country are more prone to these natural disasters than others, but we should all think ahead and prepare for such a disaster as much as we can. Having a converter box on hand, even if you have cable or satellite TV is a very good idea, especially now when you can get one with a $40 NTIA coupon. To spend $10 or $20 now, even if you just put the converter in your closet for that rainy day, is a wise investment. If disaster strikes and the cable goes out, you will at least be able to tune in your local channels with a converter box on hand to find out the latest news and weather reports.

Now, for those of you asking if you can get more channels if you already have cable or satellite, the long answer is typically "YES." While a converter box will not tap into new channels on your paid TV service, you might be surprised to find that most cable and satellite providers are only giving you the main channel of your local broadcasters. Look at my last posting to see what I mean. A typical cable provider would only give me the 10 channels that I started with, but with a DTV converter box, I can now get 20! So there is a potential to get more channels with a converter box, even if you do have cable or satellite!

So listen to your mother and buy your converter box now while you can still save $40!

Change is a-comin'!
Change, change, change....everyone's talking about change! But if the DOW keeps plunging that may be all we're left with. With the economy in the condition that it is, it's as good a time as any to take a look at your monthly expenditures and see if there is anything that you could carve out to put a few more dollars in your pocket.

If you're currently subscribing to cable or satellite TV service, now might be the best time to think about going back to free over-the-air TV. Sure, digital TV doesn't have the hundreds of channels that you get from a pay service, but DTV typically isn't just your analog channels either. In most cases, you'll find that moving to free over-the-air digital TV will give you a number of extra channels that you may not have known to even exist! And they aren't just public access channels -- they often have great programming that many people claim they need a pay TV service to see.

Let me show you an example. I'm live in a suburb just north of Minneapolis, MN. With analog TV, I would typically get only 10 full-power channels:

2 PBS
4 CBS
5 ABC
9 FOX
11 NBC
17 PBS
23 CW
29 MY
41 ION
45 IND

With DTV, I can now get 20, yes TWENTY, full power digital channels. This is through the magic of subchannels, and is just one of the advantages of digital TV. Broadcasters can now send out multiple channels in the same chunk of bandwidth that used to only be used for one channel. Here's my digital TV channel list:

2-1 PBS LOCAL
2-2 PBS HD
4-1 CBS HD
5-1 ABC HD
5-2 ABC LOCAL LOOP
9-1 FOX HD
11-1 NBC HD
11-2 NBC WEATHER PLUS
17-1 PBS LOCAL
17-2 PBS MINNESOTA CHANNEL
17-3 PBS KIDS
17-4 PBS CREATE
17-5 PBS WEATHER
23-1 CW HD
29-1 MY NETWORK HD
41-1 ION
41-2 QUBO
41-3 ION LIFE
41-4 WORSHIP
45-1 IND LOCAL

I know a number of people who get a pay service because it can offer quality children's programming all day long. With my new over-the-air digital TV lineup, I now have TWO full-time children's channels (17-3 and 41-3) available 24 hours a day! This has been a lifesaver more than once when a little one has a fever and is up in the middle of the night.

The 24 hour weather has also proven to be very handy as we're planning a day trip or even just to check the radar before we head out for the evening.

I also like what KSTP, my local ABC affiliate has done with their subchannel. They repeat their news broadcasts, daily variety show, and even a bit of radar around the clock. What a great way to give people a chance to catch the news or catch up on local happenings!

Change ain't a'comin' -- CHANGE IS ALREADY HERE! You don't have to wait until February! Get your coupon now, buy a converter box, and enjoy the FREE DTV that is available to you in your area. You'll be glad you did!
